Hudson: The Coolest Small Town in America

There are plenty of idyllic, upstate towns with quintessential Hudson Valley charm — a quaint general store here, a classic diner there. But Hudson, NY is the closest to what you could call Brooklyn north. It has an edge, a proud sensibility, and more design-forward bars, restaurants and shops than you could possibly hit in one weekend. - Brooklyn Based

Coffee

Moto Coffee Machine: Motorcycle-themed coffee shop. Welcome to Hudson.

Supernatural Coffee: Small, centrally located coffee spot with pastries.

The Maker Cafe: New cafe in the Maker Hotel. Very cozy chic atmosphere with good coffee & small breakfast items.

Eating

The Cascades: Soup and sandwich joint with friendly service and big portions. Nothing fancy, but solid & tasty.

Tanzy's: Mom-and-pop spot for breakfast and lunch.

Talbott & Arding Cheese and Provisions: Cafe that serves tasty sandwiches, soups, salads, etc. Attached to a small shop.

WM Farmer & Sons: Trendy american food and cocktails in a beautiful space. Highly recommend for brunch!

Drinking

Spotty Dog Books & Ale: Two of Alix's favorite things under one roof — bookshop with local craft beers.

Lawrence Park Hudson: Brand new wine bar serving natural wines and small plates in a beautiful space. Cozy fireplace in the back room.

The Maker Lounge: New cocktail bar in the Maker Hotel. Pricey, but fun.

Governor's Tavern: Historic small tavern with lively atmosphere, good brews and bar food.

Hudson Brewing Company: Hudson's first brewery since prohibition. Outdoor seating + a small indoor tasting room.

Activities

Kaaterskill Falls: Kaaterskill is the highest waterfall in New York State that draws large crowds on weekends. Features some of the best views of the Hudson Valley. The hike can be quite strenuous so make sure you have the appropriate footwear and do not go in inclimate weather. There are two trailheads: upper & lower. See website for more detail.

Olana Historic Site: Olana State Historic Site a historic house museum and property in Greenport, New York, near Hudson. The estate was home to Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900), one of the major figures in the Hudson River School of landscape painting. The centerpiece of Olana is an eclectic villa which overlooks parkland and a working farm designed by the artist. The residence has a wide view of the Hudson River Valley, the Catskill Mountains and the Taconic Range. There are also plenty of walks around the property that are free and beautiful.

Shopping in Hudson: The best part about Hudson is walking around and popping into all the businesses along Warren Street. Some notables are Hawkins New York, a home and lifestyle shop; Sideshow Clothing Co., vintage clothing shop; Fluff: An Alpaca Boutique, full of cozy items & cute alpacas; Flowerkraut, a floral studio and sauerkraut shop; Mutiny, a home and menswear shop; Red Chair, an antique shop concentrating on French items; Paula Grief, handmade ceramics; and Jon Doe Records, a unique vinyl shop.

Hudson Farmers Market: The Hudson Farmers Market provides high quality locally grown and produced food to Hudson. The market operates every Saturday from 9am to 1pm at 6th and Columbia Street.
